. . . There is always something new to see at the National Christmas Center. A replica of the original 5 & 10, launched 126 years ago in Lancaster, PA, features a 14' storefront complete with a life-sized figure of Frank Woolworth. Period photographs of Woolworth's earliest stores provide detailed and accurate representations of the architecture, interiors and merchandising techniques that first drew people to explore Woolworth's revolutionary marketing concepts. The majority of the exhibit is a tribute to the Woolworths' of the 1940's and 1950's. This lively, eclectic conglomeration of store merchandise, signage and fixtures represents the Toy and Christmas Merchandise departments of the store. More than a decade's research and treasure-hunting have gone into the construction of the exhibit. The merchandise, of course, is not new. In order to evoke the nostalgia of the era vintage items were collected and assembled on jam-packed shelves and in antique display cases.
